Melamine resin is the hardest of all synthetically produced organic materials. This is the reason for the high scratch and wear resistance of HPL. The high impact resistance of the material is due to the elasticity of phenolic resin.
These properties also explain the high resistance of HPL to chemicals and heat. Burning a cigarette on the surface of HPL is one of the quality tests specified in BS/EN W8, which also determines all the other qualities important for the user.
However, the bottoms of some saucepans can become extremely hot and we recommend using a protective pad.
There's nothing easier than cleaning and caring for Duropal Worktops.
A major advantage of Di'opal Worktops is that the HPL surface makes cleaning so simple. Usually a moist cloth is sufficient, but use washing-up liquid to get rid of any grease. Stubborn dirt can be removed with an organic solvent such as methylated spirits or alcohol. Brushes with hard bristles (but not wire brushes) may also be used.

Nothing can equal the natural looks and seductive feel of a solid wood worksurface. Our extensive range beautifully answers all the diverse and demanding requirements of this important kitchen feature. It also offers an attractive, unifying element with the innate versatility to complement any style and finish of kitchen. Timber worksurfaces are constructed from solid timber staves and carefully crafted to ensure maximum strength and durability throughout years of constant use.
Only simple maintenance is required. Common sense and light re-oiling will help to maintain the beauty and water resistance of the wood. The time span between oiling is dependant on the degree of use.
Bespoke layouts can be designed to suit your kitchen and accommodate features such as undermount sinks, Belfast sinks, edge profiles, cut-outs, drainer grooves and shaped ends. Standard blanks are available in 3m & 4m lengths. Stainless steel hot rods can be designed into the surface to act as a trivet, protecting the surface from hot pans.
Ten species of timber are available in 27mm and 40mm thicknesses plus 4 species in a full stave option. All species are sourced from sustainable resources. Varieties are aimed to accommodate personal tastes and aesthetic requirements including: ash, birch, cherry, iroko, maple, oak, prime beech, rubberwood, rustic beech and walnut.

The Second Nature range of granite workspaces has been adopted by kitchen manufacturers and retailers all over the UK, Unlike many other surface materials, granite offers a prestigious look and provides durability for years. Kitchen worktops are the hardest worked areas within the home and granite provides a surface that is waterproof and stain resistant, allowing its polished looks to remain for years.
Sandblasted granite provides a textured surface and is an interesting focal point in any kitchen design. With its natural earthy feel, sandblasted granite makes an inspired choice very much in vogue.
Sandblasted granite by its nature is more porous than a granite surface and it is therefore not recommend for use in hard-worked areas. Available in all the granite colours shown on the colour chart on the opposite page.
